A rectangular garden is 12 feet long and 8 feet wide. Its area is 12 * 8 = 96 square feet, and its perimeter is 12 + 8 + 12 + 8 = 40 feet. A bag of soil covers 16 square feet, so you need 96 / 16 = 6 bags. Each bag costs $4.50, so the soil costs 6 * $4.50 = $27. Fencing costs $2 a foot, so fencing the whole garden costs $80. Altogether, the project costs $107.
