Progress
When people talk about learning a new skill, they often picture a sudden leap: one day you can't do it, and the next day you can. In practice, progress is slower and much quieter. You practise for a week and feel no different. You practise for another week and notice, almost by accident, that something which used to be hard is now easy. That's how most skills grow. Small improvements pile up beneath the surface until they're large enough to see. The trick is to keep going during the weeks when nothing seems to change. Set a modest goal, show up each day, and don't judge yourself too quickly. Ask a friend to check your work now and then; they'll often spot gains you've missed. Above all, be patient. The progress is real, even when you can't feel it.
